The eventful discovery tour through the central Lower Rhine combines urban destinations with impressive natural experiences, historic walls with modern art and “RadLust” with regional enjoyment.
The starting point is the town of Zons (formerly Zons Customs Fortifications), located directly on the Rhine, with its medieval charm and the very well-preserved fortifications from the 14th century.

From here it is worth making a detour to the Knechtsteden monastery with its wonderfully fragrant monastery herb garden. Follow the route past the Sinsteden cultural center with its agricultural museum and the sculpture halls by Ulrich Rückriem in Rommerskirchen, and marvel at the magnificent parks of Schloss Dyck in Jüchen as your journey continues.

In Mönchengladbach, pure cultural enjoyment awaits you in the Museum Abteiberg, one of the world’s leading museums for contemporary art, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary in June 2022. It offers interesting insights into the polarizing work of the Lower Rhine artist Joseph Beuys. The current special exhibition focuses on photography as a medium that is threatened with extinction. In the “Bunten Garten” you can then take a break in the middle of the city and just let your soul dangle. Your cycle tour continues through the district of Viersen with the municipal gallery in the park in Viersen and its important collection of sculptures. You cycle along the Niers to Grefrath to the Lower Rhine open-air museum. Find out here how people lived, lived and worked in the past.
